Glassfiber Reinforced Cement (GRC-EP) is a proprietary composition of high strength grey cement, exterior polymers and glassfibers that can be molded into any shape or form, and is used for exterior applications. Formglas GRC-EP is lightweight, non-combustible, has superior strength and is easy to install.

GRC-EP is used for painted mouldings, cornices, column covers and decorative elements for building exteriors.

With crisp edges, sharp details and greater damage resistance, Formglas GRC-EP components combined with an E.I.F.S. skin make the ideal solution for any construction project. GRC-EP is normally ¼” to 3/8” (6-9mm) thick with 1” (25mm) thick reinforcement edges. It weights only 3 ½ to 5 lbs per square foot (18-24 kg/M2) and the elements are usually lighter than GFRC and do not need special lifting equipment for installation. GRC-EP is always smooth and is available only in its natural grey colour, though field or factory paint can be applied. GRC-EP components are rarely very large and are typically face fasten. GRC-EP does not come with an extensive (build-in) back-up structure and does not require access from behind, with the advantage that the building can be closed in prior to the GRCEP installation. Most elements can be field cut or modified, avoiding delays due to last minute changes or field dimension requirements. More economical then GFRC, GRC-EP should be used for decorative elements such as mouldings and column covers. It is not suited for large flat areas such as building skins.

It is recommended that GRC-EP products be installed by the drywall or carpentry trades in North America and the plasterboard trade elsewhere. If components require field modifications or cutting, this can be accomplished with carbine tipped tools. Face fasten the units with screws, then the counter sunk fastener holes are filled with Bondo or a similar compound. Joints between moldings and similar components are to be caulked with silicone sealant, when caulking after finishing or paint able exterior sealant, when caulking is done before painting. Only column cover joints may be taped with Bondo or epoxy type compounds, reinforced with glassfiber tape. A weather barrier behind the GRC-EP is required to avoid condensation or water build-up. Ventilation and “weep” holes should always be provided.

Formglas GRC-EP requires finishing with acrylic-based exterior primers and paints. Factory finishing is available as well.

NOTE:
When column cover joints are field taped, pre-finishing is not possible. Cement-based materials will have minor surface imperfections and high gloss finishes are not recommended.

Specifications: Formglas GRC-EP - GRC-EP is similar to GRG (Glassfiber Reinforced Gypsum) and should be specified under Section #9.
