MetalCast®
is a metal finish cast face with a gypsum composite backup. It is buffed to a lustrous sheen and has a soft glow that is akin to an antique or buffed, burnished cast metal. Although not inexpensive, it is usually more economical than conventional metal castings. The 1/4" (6mm) thick copper, brass, bronze and nickel silver elements are custom manufactured into any intricate shape with precise detail.

By
combining metal powders, minerals and glassfibers,
MetalCast®
elements equal or surpass the elegant beauty of
conventional castings.
Until recently, solid metal castings have not
been widely used by the design community due to
cost. MetalCast®
offers an affordable way to incorporate rich embellishments
in interior applications. Traditional detailing
of metal castings was based in large part on exposed
fastenings and dry butt joints. To design details

MetalCast® is available in the following
seven finishes :

|
Typical
MetalCast®
applications include moldings, door surrounds,
columns and panels.

Like QuarryCast®, MetalCast®
is pre-finished and should only be installed by
finish carpenters, mill workers or shop fitters.
MetalCast®
is attached either with adhesive or by face-fastening.
Fastenings may be exposed if so designed, or countersunk
and filled. When filled, fastening will be visible
to the trained eye and hence locations should
be predetermined and not left to the installer’s
discretion. A number of innovative approaches
have evolved over the years, including fastenings
left exposed but located in reveals, and small
MetalCast®
buttons or caps surface mounted to mask fastenings.
Screws countersunk approximately 1/8" (3mm)
and the holes filled with MetalCast®
compound (see patching instructions) is often
chosen, however, patched holes cannot be polished
or lacquered to blend in and will be noticeable.
Joints are visible, and may be either dry butt
or caulked. Complete installation instructions
are sent with each shipment as they vary slightly
depending on the finish purchased. MetalCast®
material is never to be wet cut.
